Silly fun

I was playing around (once again) with my Gelli Arts printing plate and decided to make a funny face valentine for granddaughter Emmalee. I cut out a heart shape from a gelli plate background print I made to fit a heart tag. I was going to stop there but decided to turn it into something else. A funny-face was born using more of the printed paper bits attached to pebble shapes. LOL

The hair and hanger are pink (Emmalee's favorite color) grosgrain ribbon and I attached the whole thing to pink heart shaped paper and doily.

The Xyron 510 came in handy for attaching the doily and the 3D items.

I think I will hang it on her bedroom door when I see her in a couple of weeks.

Gelli Arts™ Gel Printing Plate and Altered Book Cover

Work in progress........
I took a hard cover book apart, removing the block of text paper. The book cover was an orange color so I covered it with white Gesso so that the color would be mostly hidden, and yet I wanted the texture to remain. The lettering on the spine and cover was impressed into the book so it gave an additional texture although you can no longer read it.

Using yellow, greens and browns (separate layers), I got the following results with the Gelli Arts™ Gel Printing Plate and am letting it sit until I decided what to do next. I also printed some textured paper with the same colors. I LOVE the weathered look......like an old house's porch or the wood on an old screen door at my great aunt's house.

One of my favorite techniques is to pounce the brayer, varying the angle, on the Gelli Arts™ Plate so that I get marks, and sometimes the paint lifts into a little textured peak. The white lines on the cover spine are where the paint didn't reach....I am mulling over some ideas about coloring the white lines.

There are so many possibilities with the Gelli Arts™ plates. For now, I am keeping it simple. I lean toward the rustic colors but maybe I'll break out with some vibrant ones next! :)

This project will probably become a new book with pages I've made from the Gelli Arts™Plate.

Hope your week is going well - it's COLD here in Michigan!

Blessings......

Month One of 2013

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, but after a very nice holiday, I seem to be into trying to get organized....not sure I am succeeding. I AM discovering little treasures in my studio's drawers and boxes that I had forgotten. Like most of us, I probably shouldn't buy anything else for the rest of my life!!
.......Well, I didn't follow through on that thought because I did purchase a small (6 x 6) Gelli Arts™ Gell plate and have been experimenting for the first time tonight........FUN! FUN! Lots of options ...one of my first creations is shown here. Sure looks like there is a lot of texture but it's completely a flat surface of acrylic paints in layers. Have you tried this process? The printed pages will be useful for card backgrounds, scrapbook pages and collages.
Enjoy your week.
